TOFFEE SQUARES
1 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg yolk
1 tsp. vanilla
2 cups all purpose flour
1/4 tsp salt
½ pound sweet chocolate
½ cups chopped nuts
DIRECTIONS
Cream butter in electric mixer. Add sugar
gradually and blend well. Add yolk and vanilla and blend in. Add flour
gradually, then the salt. Blend to moisten flour. Spread in 10/13 rectangle
greased cooking pan. Bake 350 for about 20 minutes. While slightly warm, pierce
the surface with a fork, then spread with melted chocolate and sprinkle with
nuts. Cool. Cut into small squares before the chocolate solidifies,
approximately 1 inch.
Note: These were baked every Christmas for as
far back as Rick can remember.
