DOROTHY'S CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES

2 cakes (½ pound) Baker's Sweet Chocolate
½ cup butter or other shortening
½ cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1 egg, well beaten
½ tsp. salt
½ cup chopped nut meats
1 cup sifted flour
½ tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla

DIRECTIONS

Cut each small square of chocolate into 6 to 8 pieces. Cream butter, add sugars gradually and cream together until light and fluffy. Add egg and mix thoroughly. Sift flour once, measure, add salt and soda and sift again. Add flour in two parts and mix well. Add cut chocolate, nuts and vanilla, and mix thoroughly. Drop from teaspoon on greased baking sheet 2 inches apart. Bake in a moderate oven (375 F) 10 to 12 minutes. Makes about 50 cookies.

Notes:

1.  Butter tastes better.

2.  Rick ate these when he was a little boy.  He still does . . . and when he does, he still is!
